We're always in the sky except whatever part is touching the ground - the bottom of our feet, our backs if we are laying down, etc. Climbing a ladder keeps us in the same sky but we see it from a different perspective, a different point of view. We can look at a situation we are in with someone else, then look at that same situation from the other person's point of view and see if we feel differently about that situation we are in. We might have compassion for that other person who is in the situation with us.
The earth is farther away, below, but is the sky closer?
My ladders tend to vanish in keeping witth the progress of my ascent.
Is this the essence of the human being? To struggle to ascend to the heights of the gods....to commit deicide, that enslaving and transcending transgression by which the human is surpassed not in order for her to assume the divine but for her to destroy it....and create something new out of the remnants of human nature.
Aristophanes' speech from the Symposium? Sisyphus and his stone? Us and our ladders? hehehehe.
I stand on the top of a high hill overlooking the plains. I have three ladders of differing height. It is a beautiful day with nice clouds, a bright sun and deep blue filling in the gaps.
I climb up the short one: My view is limited though I can see plainly the area just around me. The sky is removed from me though its presence is felt above me.
I climb the middle size one: My view is now enlarged to take in a wider area and the sky becomes somehow closer. I see further off than before and the plain is resolving itself more clearly to my eyes.
I climb the highest ladder: I am now far above the ground and as I arrest my fear of the height I become calmed by the feeling of being a part of the sky in seeing down upon a verdant land stretching out before me in all directions and though I cannot touch the sky my hand raised above me appears to grasp at the very heavens. I look at my hand and feel the ether which is all around me. I breath deeply, closing my eyes and see myself floating higher and higher, soaring as if with wings.
The vision is a quiet voice to my soul, guiding and leading me forward.
Reach the sky? I am the sky, and every time I breath it fills me, my body, my lungs. I could fly!! It surrounds me, it fills me, we are one, the sky and I.
I don't know about you..but....my head is always in the clouds. :) I'm Sorry! I had to say it! Well, it seems to me, the higher you go on a ladder the more larger the sky looks. Very refreshing! I'd rather look up than down. Down is scary. Up is nice. I can just disappear into the sky. My soul will fly as my feet stay upon the ground..
I imagine my spirit flys every day, every night. Flying to the kingdom of heaven. I visit and dance with my dead loved ones. Yearning for the dead but also for freedom...(what am I saying? The soul/spirit IS Free ! That's why it's able to Fly !) We are all able to reach the sky; whether on ground or on ladder. Always able to fly. It doesn't matter where we are or what we are doing. I think that I live in the sky and don't even know it! Believing is power. I constantly remind myself of this! Something, another world perhaps, dwells either in or beyond the sky. I'm determined to find out the truth when my life comes to it's close.
I am back! Been staring at moving highways for three whole days. There WAS a sky above it though, and me, and us all -- a beautiful blue BIG SKY (I was in Montana the whole time).
I thought about this site, and all the looking-up we're doing.
On Saturday June 21 I found my friend Dan strapping ladders together in the middle of the patio. A plastic chair was tied to the top of the second ladder, maybe 30 feet at the highest point.
He wanted one person to jump on a teetertotter board in order to flip a second, smaller person high into the air to land on the plastic chair.
I think it was to get a glimpse of the world from a precarious point of view.
I always try to remember, "we are of the sky more so than of the ground," it's a thought so beautifully articulated and inspiring to me. Thank you to all the comments posted here -- so much to consider as I tend to my acorns. Love to all -
I love this. It makes me wonder, if I truly climb a ladder, will I be any better off.. What do you have to sacrifice for that taller ladder? Will you still be able to breathe correctly?
When I count what's wrong with my life, I get totally depressed. When I count the good things, I feel like smiling and I do. Then I think, "well, it's not all that bad." Life is just a bowl of cherries. But when I see myself smiling in the mirror, I like myself more. Well, life is a roller-coaster. That's what I now think. Recently, I got a message that I was a king, and I should stop the battle, and appreciate my victory. Well, I should listen to this one. And you, too, my friend. We are all kings. The battle is the battle of goodness winning WORLD PEACE. At all times, find something that makes you laugh. Laughter is the best workout! Chimpanzees are wise to it. Are you?

too far to reach

Climbing is fun. Keep on climbing Yoko. :)

A spiral of ladders,
different heights,
creating a stairway,
to Heaven.
I reach the top,
of the first
ladder.
Moving across,
one foot on,
between worlds.
Looking up,
Down,
all around.
Distances the same,
up and down,
down and up.
Ladder of existence,
rungs of life,
heart beat.
What if we reached it from the smallest ladder?
What if we could already touch it while standing on the ground?
I love the sky;
I love the blue;
My love is always with you.
I'm so high with love;
I'm already in the sky;
Looking down upon you.
Maybe I need a ladder to climb down to you; I'm sure I would fall all the way back to you.

i approach my roofline, on the ladder the akebia vine covers more sky yet the blue is closer...life is a paradox, no?
Will reach somewhere if I keep climbing? Will I find a giant there like Jack who climbed his Beanstalk?
I wonder what my giant will be like?
:)
Thanks, Yoko. I love your acorns.
I closed my eyes during my imagining.

A ladder ...
THE ladder,- is always here.
Jacob's ladder?
Angels going up and down?
Finding a place to rest,
taking some time,
or even a dream,
DOES lift us up.
A higher ladder
doesn't matter.

I do not try to make poems.
I am no poet, and have never been one.
I am no English native speaker.
Matter of fact is
that
Lady Ono, is giving an impulse,
I feel and wait and watch,
what this input does to my soul,
and that's just the way
I react on it*,
without any exaggerations or cramps
to do something specific.

No matter what, I dont think it ever gets closer, its as if we are allready part of it.
The higher I climb the further away home looks, nothing looks closer as I look upwards it is always just out of reach.

there is the sky and there is the
blue...is this the deep sea or just high above?
We all just love but... we really share?

there is no need for ladders
jump
feel your flight
