October 9th 2008

On 9 Oct 2008, John Lennon’s birthday, Yoko Ono asks the people of Iceland to join her and many others across the rest of the world in praying for peace and stability. At 8pm, as IMAGINE PEACE TOWER is illuminated on the island of Viðey, she asks everyone to join together and let the power of light and prayer become a collective expression of the desire for peace and harmony on our planet.

Dear Friends

Please join me not only in remembering John on October 9th but also in spreading the message of peace. This is something that was so important to John - the fact that we could all work together for the positive good of our planet. He would have loved how we are all mobilizing ourselves in thought and in action. It's time for action and the action is peace!
with love, yoko

Many thanks for a very moving video.

I sat there watching it thinking to myself is Yoko a complete lunatic going around saying peace love, care, joy, health, etc, over and over again and my cynics hackles rose as i thought about war in iraq, war in afganistan, war, poverty, famine, war, torture - you know like the real world, what we deal with every day discrimination against disabled people, and i was thinking Yoko you're a loony and i know that's really discriminatory language and i shouldn't be using it but its how i was feeling.

But.....

Towards the end i was won over, towards the end, i was keying into my own position, where i stand, and whilst i'm against the hippy thing and against the bible thing, i know i'm into the teachings, i know i'm into the love and peace thing whoever says it, i know i marched and march for peace, to stop the war.

Its just the world crashes in most times, gives its insane messages, yes yoko its them not you, not me, and corrupts the very soul of all us innocents and in this melee, its real neat that someone stands up and says it over and over again and we receive the reminder.

So thank you Yoko.
Happy birthday John.

I remember the devastation of your death and the fear i felt from and in the world. I remember the day of prayers for peace. I remember the candle burning on the ramp leading into birmingham new street shopping precinct and i remember the hope that sprang from the light.

Have a good day in Reykjavik. Hope turning on that light doesn't turn over the economy. And i wonder if we should have a day of darkness. Turn the l ights out for peace. Welcome the darkness, deal with the fear and know that tomorrow the light will be on again.

my word verifcation today looks like nut walk. Let the peace nuts walk amongst us.

The mantra, "All We Are Saying, Is Give Peace A Chance", is something I say to everyone and anyone, every day, all the time.

You betcha, Yok, @ 1pm(pst) in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, I, and all my friends, and family will be "thinking Peace". I've been on the phone since I came to 100 Acorns this morning to let everyone I know about your endeavor for Peace.

Thank you Yoks, for giving me the best year with your 100 days of Acorns, I will NEVER forget this or you for your thoughtfulness and kindness .

Goodbye, Love & Light.

I will light a candle for peace in honor of John. It is a Catholic votive candle with their symbol of the Holy Spirit...a spirit of peace and comfort to many.

It matters not whether I believe that the symbol is the same as the entity, but that what it symbolizes is the very spirit of peace that we need the most. A pure spirit of peace is in and of itself a sacred concept, and since I feel that John's spirit merged with that Peace Spirit long ago this candle honors him and the Spirit which his had joined.

I hope this makes sense. Even if it doesn't, I do believe that our spirits can for a brief moment merge with a greater Spirit which gives peace, truth and hope for all of humanity. John's spirit is in that Spirit forever, helping us to give hope and comfort to peacemakers.

Yoko, I can't even describe in words what you and John have done for this world. You are both completely amazing people. You and John have really awakened my spirit and I'm going to do whatever it takes to keep the light inside me alive. Thank you, Yoko. Thank you so much for everything. Peace to you and I'll be sure to be spreading peace. If we all can touch at least one person and that person can spread peace on to at least one other person, think how much peace we'd have. I'm with the Imagine Peace Tower right now standing beside it in spirit as the light turns on and the wishes beam out into the world.
Peace and wishes to all of you.

Happy Birthday John!

John's Birthday has been a special day to me since I was 12.
Generally we are given presents on our birthdays but John has given me a present many times on his birthday. Special things happened to me on October 9th and I think it is a way he chooses to tell me: 'I'm always around'.

I am used to celebrating his birthday by doing some private rituals like putting flowers by his pic and lighting sticks while playing Imagine, Mind Games, #9 Dream or Out the Blue (some of my favourite songs of his). I did it this afternoon, at 5 o'clock Argentine time, but it felt specially powerful because I knew Yoko had asked us to join her prayer round the world. Actually, I was checking my e mails when her e mail came in.

Please, Yoko (and everybody there taking part of this blog) feel free to check what I posted today on my blog. There is a short poem in Spanish I wrote for John in 1996and I hope you like it.

I also made my wish to the Peace Tower on this Day.

Happy birthday, dearest John!
Happy birthday, Sean!
Blessings for you and your beautiful boy, dear Yoko.

John: I can assure you, you are not the only one. I am, we all are dreamers like you.

Peace to everyone, a concept that never ages while we keep it alive. Thanks Yoko for keeping the light burning.

Happy Birthday John - when my brother and sisters were small children my mother used to take us to see the Beatle films. We used to pretend we were them, in our backyards holding our tennis raquets. My sister and I who were only 7 and 8 at the time argued about who should be John. So we took it in turns to be him. Ever since I have always take an interest in his music, his peace work with you Yoko and his writings. I have his books which I thin I loved the most. Clever. You both touched a lot of lives which you cant even begin to know about. With simple messages of hope and peace. Thats what the world has always needed - the simplicity in it is powerful. Yet why do people view that as strange? If we all keep talking about it, it becomes a way of life. Perhaps we need to unite all the bloggers in the world to send the message out far and wide Yoko. Love to you and John on your continued journey.

Happy Birthday John and Sean.
John will always be alive to me, and (call me old fashioned) I believe I will meet him someday in a better place. Yoko, you have helped me come in contact with the creative part of me I tucked away 15 years ago when I became a mother at 21. I am picking up where I left off. God Bless you, you are an amazing woman, and I am grateful for this chance to participate.

What a beautiful work of art in concept and execution - not to mention the dedication. I'm so happy that Ringo, Olivia, Sean, and Kyoko could be there with you for the first lighting. Of course millions more were with you in spirit.
This may sound corny or silly, but I am going to place my own flashlight upright and leave it turned on as long as the tower is left on. I recycle my batteries in a bin at the library, so I hope I'm being eco-friendly, as geothermal energy is not available to me!

Yoko,
Not having checked into this site in a month, I wasn't aware of this meditation (I often participate in others you call for), yet that night I was moved to write this essay:(http://piecesofheartvt.blogspot.com/2008/10/world-goes-round.html)

Towards the end, the influence of "Imagine" became undeniable.

On this day, after a great lunch in SoHo, my sister and I went walking up Mulberry Street in search of an Italian market so I could bring some foods home to Hawaii that I cannot get here. I stumbled upon a guy on the street in front of a gallery and a drawing of John's was sitting on the table he was setting up. He said to me "We're opening a bit early, just for you!" Were those tears of joy or sadness as I stood surrounded by his are, engulfed in his music and his words? Both! One and the same. Laughter and tears mingled in my soul and rose to my face. Nothing but LOVE in my heart. We never made it to the market. . .
